DR. JOHN'S CASE NOTES : MESSINA BOUTUS................
This particular condition tends to affect bridge players who build up a run of wretched scores in the first half of a duplicate session. Their initial desire to take no risks eventually changes into a gung-ho approach towards both their bidding and their play. This blase attitude stays with them for the remainder of the session. Born out of frustration and anger, this psychological disorder quickly develops from small mildly frivolous acts...
......into full blown "out of control" random behaviour . "Losing their heads" is often an understatement of their condition. Unconcerned now about any future scores , wild punts and outrageous psyches abound. The urge to have fun and create mayhem in the opposition ranks spurs them on towards total self-destruction at the table. However, this condition does have serious implications for the sufferers. Firstly, they will certainly face severe disciplinary action from the club officials, following the inevitable list of complaints gathered in from shocked and outraged opponents. Secondly, the disorder often spills over into their private and work lives, causing them to experience broken marriages, as well as summary dismissals from their work-place. Yet strangely, for some victims of this full-blown disorder, the gay abandon and freedom they have now come to enjoy.......soon develops into a craving. This sudden addiction propels them into making life-changing decisions. These always seem to involve rejection of their former-lives, opting instead to back-pack around the world.....in search of love, excitement, adventure , danger and wealth.
