ABOUT
THE GAME

( Article by Carp )

When I look at this photo I am hit by all the positive characteristics that so vividly come across by these very distinguished-looking gentlemen. I see the game being played by people who knew how to dress , because they all had a sense of occasion which prioritised bridge as an important event in their weekly calendar.......one which warranted both time and effort to look   good and to look smart .
But what strikes me most of all is their demeanour , which I firmly believe would be ever present at the table :  dignity , composure , calmness ,  and  respectful appreciation of partners and opponents alike . Yet beneath their refined , educated , outward appearance , they all give the impression of possessing a very careful and clinical approach to their bidding and play the cards ,  bringing out in the process ,  all the joy and exhilaration that only this wonderful game can provide .
