THE DEVIL'S DICTIONARY.................................
  • Average : sadly, the level at which very few bridge players rarely go beyond
  • Club expert : what an average player claims to be in the company of impressionable beginners
  • Club professional : a " label " an average player will create for him/herself when possessed by delusions of grandeur
  • Leap : a reckless practice adopted by many average players, when blindly punting games or slams. It usually occurs when they find themselves completely in the dark as to how to bid the hand with guile and intelligence
  • Logical thinking : a cognitive skill which average players are known to lack. This inability is in strict accordance with an incredible talent to overlook, misinterpret, and misunderstand crucial information
  • Ride : what " oh-yes-we-know-what-we-doing " average players are taken for, as evidenced by the countless times they are tricked into making a " sucker's double "
